Why Gate Healing?

Why Gate Healing

There are tens of thousands of therapists in Texas. Finding the right one is not about credentials alone, though credentials matter. It is about finding someone whose experience, approach, and way of working actually match what you need. This page exists to help you figure out whether Gate Healing is that match.

25+ Years of Clinical Experience

Jonathan has been a practicing clinician for more than 25 years. That is not a number on a page. It represents thousands of sessions across a wide range of settings, populations, and clinical challenges. He has worked with individuals, couples, families, and teenagers. He has provided therapy in private practice, agency settings, and corporate environments.

Experience at that depth means something practical: there is very little that catches him off guard. When a session takes an unexpected turn, when the presenting problem is not actually the real problem, when a client needs someone who can pivot in real time, experience is what makes that possible.

Specialized Training That Serves Real Needs

Gottman Level II Trained (Couples Therapy)

The Gottman Method is one of the most extensively researched approaches to couples therapy in existence. It is built on decades of longitudinal studies tracking what actually predicts relationship success and failure. Jonathan completed Level II training, which means he works with couples using assessment tools and interventions grounded in that research.

In practice, this means couples therapy at Gate Healing is not about venting at each other for an hour. It is structured, evidence-informed, and focused on changing the patterns that are doing the most damage.

ICISF Certified (Crisis and Trauma Response)

Jonathan holds certification through the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, the leading organization for crisis intervention training. He has provided on-site trauma response for Fortune 500 companies following workplace critical incidents.

That background shapes his approach to all trauma work, whether it is a recent crisis or something a client has been carrying for years. He works with clarity and calm, without rushing the process or tiptoeing around difficult material.

Board Approved Supervisor (LPC-s)

The LPC-s designation means Jonathan is approved by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council to supervise Licensed Professional Counselor Associates as they work toward full licensure. This reflects both his clinical standing and his commitment to developing the next generation of counselors in Texas.

A Practice Built on Purpose, Not Volume

Gate Healing is a solo private practice by design. Jonathan does not employ a team of rotating clinicians. He does not accept insurance panels that dictate how many sessions a client can have or what treatment approaches are allowed. He does not maintain a waitlist of 50 people.

The model is simple: a manageable caseload, focused attention, and the clinical freedom to do the work the way it should be done. That means 45-minute sessions at $200, out-of-network, with the therapist you chose from the first session to the last.

Virtual Across All of Texas

Gate Healing operates as a fully virtual practice, serving clients in every part of the state. Virtual therapy removes geographic barriers, eliminates commute time, and allows clients to do this work from a space where they feel comfortable and safe.

Whether you are in Austin, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, or a smaller community without many local options, you have access to the same quality of care. Jonathan also offers occasional in-person sessions in the Austin area for clients who prefer that format.

Is Gate Healing Right for You?

Gate Healing tends to be a strong fit for people who want a therapist with substantial experience, who value direct and honest communication, and who are looking for someone who will take their work seriously without making it feel clinical or cold.

It may not be the right fit if you are looking for sliding-scale or insurance-based sessions, or if you need a specific modality that falls outside Jonathan’s scope of practice.

In my twenty years as a mental health professional, I have rarely come across a therapist as uniquely gifted and dedicated as Jonathan Anderson. When we met way back in high school, Jonathan already knew he wanted to be a therapist. He was already volunteering for a teen help line and was incredibly dedicated to his work. Even as a teenager, Jonathan genuinely cared about the people he was helping, and the same holds true today. Despite his extensive professional experience and wealth of life wisdom, Jonathan doesn't take himself too seriously. He is, hands-down, one of the funniest, most open-hearted people I've ever met. A deeply genuine and non-judgmental person, Jonathan doesn't "talk down" to his clients. He is open-minded and authentically strives to see things from the client's point-of-view. I should also mention that Jonathan is a talented, accomplished guitarist and a skilled astrophotographer. He brings his natural creativity to the therapy process, and carefully customizes his treatment approach for each individual. If you're going through a tough time, or just need a little extra support to live your best life, I cannot recommend him enough.James RobbinsJanuary 1, 2024

Jonathan has great appointment options in that he can meet on the phone, in person, and/or via skype/face time. He's also very fair and objective when dealing with highly personal topics. I sincerely feel I've made strong personal gains as a result of our working together. I've already recommended his services to several friends/family/peers because I trust that he will give them the individual care they may need.Serena McMillonAugust 23, 2015
I was referred to Jonathan by a friend after the loss of a very good friend through suicide. Jonathan guided me through the grief process and that morphed into understanding much deeper and suppressed feelings and thought processes as well as unhealthy coping mechanisms during times of stress I had developed as a child. I felt that even though it was my journey of sorts was mine and mine alone I never felt that I was by-myself. I will always appreciate Jonathan's frankness, ability to get me to talk about things that had been buried my whole adult life as well as giving me the "tools" to sort things out and become a much happier, loving and better person to myself as well as others around me. Jonathan's ethics, morals and honesty is of the highest standards and that in it's-self meant a lot to me. I cannot thank Jonathan enough as well as the friend that recommended him to me.Les HAugust 22, 2015
After a few counseling sessions with Jon, I felt compelled to write this quick review. My wife and I would like to thank Mr. Anderson for assisting us through some challenging moments. Jon quickly opened our eyes to different approaches and strategies to better communication. It's amazing how you can get into a rut, or habit of the same negative communication patterns, but think you are being completely open minded. Jon opened my eyes to this better understanding, without making me feel judged, and for that I highly recommend him.Adam DaysAugust 22, 2015
Jonathan Anderson has been very instrumental during a difficult time in my life. He allows the conversation to follow the path of my needs, and is quite capable to keeping me focused during our discussions His experience in marriage counseling has been valuable during the last couple of years. My need was not for the marriage itself, but for family medical issues. He has assisted me in providing the support for my husband during this most difficult time, while at the same time insuring that I did not forget how to take care of myself both emotionally and physically. I would highly recommend you consider Jonathan Anderson for any family crisis you may be experiencing.Mary PowellAugust 22, 2015
