Jonathan F Anderson Counseling

At Gate Healing Counseling, we understand how difficult it can be to reach out for support. It takes real strength to take that first step, and we honor that by providing a respectful, compassionate, and down-to-earth experience from the very beginning. You won’t find psychobabble or judgment here—just honest conversation and a collaborative approach rooted in over 25 years of clinical experience and evidence-based practices.

We take the time to truly understand who you are and what matters to you, so we can work together toward meaningful, lasting change. If you’re ready to move forward, we’re here when you’re ready.

Jonathan is the founder of Gate Healing, PLLC and has been active in the therapeutic community since the 1990s. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1994, followed by a Master’s degree in Counseling from the well-regarded University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in 1997.

Jonathan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board Approved Supervisor recognized by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. He has completed Level 2 training in the Gottman Method of Couples Counseling, a respected approach for helping couples build stronger relationships. In 1998, he also received advanced certification in Critical Incident Stress Management and Debriefing through the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation.

A Note from Jonathan

My counseling style is conversational and interactive—designed to make meaningful growth feel both accessible and authentic. I draw from insight-oriented therapy to explore patterns that may be holding you back, and incorporate cognitive-behavioral techniques to help you develop more effective thoughts and behaviors. Mindfulness is a core part of my work, offering practical tools to stay grounded and present, especially when life feels overwhelming.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I create a safe, supportive environment for clients navigating past wounds or high-stress experiences. This approach helps foster resilience and empowers you to regain a sense of control and clarity. For couples, I offer Gottman Method Couples Counseling with Level 2 training, using research-based strategies to strengthen communication, empathy, and trust in relationships.

One of the most influential experiences in my development came through direct training and mentorship with Insoo Kim Berg, co-founder of the Solution Focused model. Our conversations went beyond techniques—they were about how to integrate this approach in a way that feels natural, flexible, and truly client-centered. Her guidance continues to shape how I work today. I believe that therapy is most effective when we co-create a plan that aligns with your values, goals, and pace—because meaningful change is most sustainable when it feels like it belongs to you.

With a career spanning over 25 years, Jonathan has cultivated a trusted counseling practice that is highly regarded by successful professionals and accomplished individuals from diverse backgrounds. His therapeutic approach is rooted in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Gottman Couples Counseling, and Trauma Informed Counseling. His counseling style involves a calming and supportive demeanor along with direct, clear guidance.

Insight-oriented therapy is a deeper, exploratory approach that focuses on understanding underlying patterns, emotions, and beliefs that shape thoughts and behaviors. Because this process takes time, it often lends itself to longer-term work, allowing for meaningful self-discovery and lasting change. While some people find that just a handful of solution-focused counseling sessions address immediate concerns, many choose to continue therapy with Jonathan as their lives evolve. Psychotherapy isn’t just about solving problems—it’s also a space for reflection, growth, and adapting to new challenges. Insight-oriented therapy supports independence by equipping clients with the awareness and tools to handle life’s ups and downs with greater confidence and resilience.
